Okay, we registered at BBB!!! So great!!! It was way less painful than Adam thought it was going to be... in fact, we decided it was fun. :) We'll have to go update our registry soon, though. We were really surprised at how little we need, which makes it kind of complicated. I'm pretty sure registering for a $400 vacuum and a $600 calphalon set isn't enough, since not everyone will want to buy us really expensive gifts. So, it's off to other stores. Also, we stopped by REI last night... and HATED it. Their stuff is WAY overpriced and we decided we can get all the stuff we want from there, from Wal Mart or Target for way cheaper, so we're just going to do that with wedding cash gifts instead of registering at REI. Which means now we have to come up with a new second place! We're thinking Amazon and either Macy's or Crate and Barrel. We have all but decided that the best way to go... is to register at a bunch of different places (including registering for gift cards at Target and Wal Mart), and only listing BBB, Amazon, and Macy's on our invites. That way, if some random person wants to buy us a gift and is in Target or Walmart or whatever, they'll find a registry for us. Is that a bad idea?
Also, does anyone have suggestions on WHAT to register for??? I have so much kitchen stuff (I have a KitchenAid, a food processor, toaster, blender, immersion blender, hand mixer, tons of pyrex, mini food processor, dishes/plates - though Adam wants new ones -, kitchen towels, utensils.... etc....) that we really had a difficult time registering for stuff. So does anyone have anything they registered for and can't live without? Anything they DIDN'T register for and wished they had?

Some of our best gifts were things that we didn't register for! We loved that we got staples for our home like a 25lb. of sugar and flower, toilet paper (yep seriously got that, but it was actually pretty aweseome), a picture hanging kit with tons of nails, screws, wires, and anything else you would need to hang pictures and frames (because you might get lots of decorative things), and on that note I'd register for things you actually WANT to decorate your home with :). Oh, and if you don't have a cast iron pan, they're awesome to cook in (but pricey).
ReplyDeletei don't feel like thinking too hard right now so i'll comment back later if something else comes to me. but if you don't have a tool box of some sort, make sure you get one of those! we got one and we use it all the time to hang stuff and fix things and put random crap together.
ReplyDeleteALSO, how do you feel about registering for china? since you're from the south, i would strongly recommend registering for china even if you don't want it. a lot of traditional southerners really like to get china for wedding gifts and if you don't want it and it's on your registry, you can return it for CASH.
we did that and at $100 a place setting and another $50 for silver, we got a TON of cash. i do still kinda feel guilty about it, but we were able to use that money for groceries and stuff. and when we finally settle down, we can buy china if we want. we just didn't want to have that kind of fragile baggage moving all over the country in our first years of marriage.

Ha, we were still college students living in a 500 sq ft apt when we got married, so our situation was a little different (basically, we didn't register for anything, and the best gift we got was my mother-in-law stocking our apt with perishables while we were on our honeymoon - i.e., veggies, fruit, dairy stuff, bread, cereal, etc). We were also very very poor, and most of our friends/family are also very very poor, so, again... situations are different. Good luck, though! And congrats on finally getting engaged! ;)
