Update... and yes, opinions needed!!!

I am the happiest I have ever been. I'm just happy. So incredibly happy.

Update on the photographers:

PointeDigital (pointedigital.com) has changed their deal. For $2000, they're giving us all day wedding photography, bridals, engagements, 2 discs of all digital negatives with edited images, one 16x20 printed and framed, a 30-page custom sign-in book, and a dvd slide show. That includes travel! They REALLY are giving us a killer deal now... this makes the decision way harder!

Effervescent Media (effervescentmediaworks.com) is giving us the same deal as before, but upgraded to a wedding album instead of a sign-in book (we would still be purchasing the sign-in book for $125). Also, note that she does give out all the images, but they are ALL edited. So to recap, that's $1615 for engagements, bridals, all day wedding photography in unlimited locations, DVD slide show, online gallery, 2 CDs of each session including edited images, wedding album, and a $400 print credit. (That price includes travel.)

Help! I am more torn than ever!

  1. Whose work do you like better? Honestly, the "stuff" you get isn't worth anything if you don't absolutely love the images. Forget the packages--go to the portfolio and choose based on skill. A couple hundred dollars either way isn't going to make any difference in a year, ten years, twenty years when you're looking back at your wedding photos. It is a sad, sad thing to have hundreds of photos in an album if you don't like how they look.

  2. you just need to make a pros and cons list :)

  3. At first look, effervescent looks very over-processed to me, personally. In ten years, the super-saturated look and photoshopped lens flare is going to be out. Just my two cents.

  5. Sarah, I have looked at these photographer's websites so many times trying to make a decision on what to tell you. I think I would say go with Pointe Digital. I just like the look of his photography better, it seems cleaner. Plus it will be nice to have the negatives so that if you don't like the way he edited one of the photos you can always get it reprinted.
    Hope this helps!

  6. i agree about the pointdigital-honestly, having them edited is nice to some degree, but you really do want all the untouched images so you can reedit them if you dont like how its done or if you want it to look different down the road. the packages dont particularly matter either, since you really arent gonna watch a dvd slide show of your pics...its nice, but just sayin, you wont ever watch it. if you go with point, and you dont really care about the slideshow, i would ask if you can swap that for credit instead, or another print, or something like like, or use it to upgrade the sign in book to an album thats what i would do!

  7. okay. the update makes my decision so much easier. pointedigital. the photography is just better. more classic, less trendy.

i will say that i love the effervescent pictures of "stuff" like your dress, shoes, food, y'know... all the details. but i really can't say i'm fond of any of the pictures with people in them. and those tend to be the important ones...

if there's anything wedding related that you're going to blow your budget on, PHOTOGRAPHY IS IT. honestly, that's the bottom line. put all your pennies together for a photographer you really love.

oh, and while a million pictures are nice and all, you really just need a couple golden shots because those are the ones you're going to hang around your house or send out to friends or what not. does that make sense? most of our wedding pictures just sit in the album/photobox, but it's those few pictures that we LOVE that we blew up on a giant canvas and framed and hung up.

sorry for the novel. to summarize the key points, #1 pointedigital, #2 i love you.
